E-bike or regular bike

Hello, Guys! To start our article with the answer of our question, we will say that choosing between a regular bike or a e-bike depends only on your expectations and needs. In its most basic form, an electric bicycle is little more than a conventional bike that has a small electric motor and a battery added. Most have an electronic control system that allows the rider to select the level of assistance desired, ranging from none to full electric operation.

 

Many e-bikes are great options to replace the car, so the criteria we should apply is by comparing them with the cars, actually. So, let’s reframe the story a bit. Car or e-bikes? Definitely, e-bikes. Think that cars are much faster than an e-bike? Think again. The average car speed for around-town driving is 18 mph. Average e-bike speed? A very respectable 15 mph. As for costs, investment and operating costs are almost nothing compared to a car. E-bike prices range between $1,000 and $4,000—about as much as a high-end road bike. Of course, replacing your battery can be pricey (a few hundred dollars), but when you stack up bridge tolls, parking lot fees, and tickets, you’ll see even that is not comparable.

 

But, maybe you are not at all in the position to replace your car and you are more into the healthy exercising with your regular bike. If you want to keep cycling as an outdoor workout but you also enjoy a little more speed, e-bike is a great recommendation.

There are two mains types of electric bike. The most common is what has come to be called a “pedelec”. This type of system monitors the rider’s pedaling and automatically adds a certain amount of motor assistance – usually depending upon rate, force and speed.

The real advantages of e-bikes are climbing efficiency, wind resistance, and better range. As for the health benefits, if you experience knee pain or exercise induced asthma for example, electric bikes can breathe new life into the sport of cycling. Electric bicycles offer the same great benefits as traditional bicycles. Though they’re pedal assist, a e-bike can still give you a workout, improving your cardiovascular health, fitness, and aerobic capacity.

 

Now, if you are almost ready to give a try to e-bikes, you have to be careful to the quality of the battery. This really makes a difference, so look for a reputably named battery manufacturer such as Sony, Samsung or Panasonic, and make sure the warranty covers the battery for at least two years. Lithium-ion batteries are typically said to last 800 full charge cycles, this means three years of weekday commuting. But with a careful use, you should get at least 2,000 half-charge cycles. We should say that, in practice, a battery life of several years is quite easily achievable. A full charge typically takes between two and a half to six hours, depending on the manufacturer, battery capacity, and battery chemistry.

 

So, let’s recap!

In terms of costs, is the same as a regular high-end bike. Incomparable as costs to a car! Relating to the health benefits, you can have them almost equally scored with more protection from an e-bike for specific problems as the knee ones or asthma.

Speed? Similar, with less effort, you decide the level of assistance from the e-bike settings. Charging time? Ok, this is the minor minus, let’s say, along with the electricity cost.
